Description
Bauxite residue ponds, Western Australia
Black channels wind through a pond of bright saffron yellow, cutting across bands of silver crust like brush strokes on a canvas. This is the residue left behind after bauxite is refined, and from the air it turns into something closer to abstract art than industry. The colours shift with every rain and every dry spell, so this exact pattern only existed for a short time.
