Description
Bauxite residue ponds, Western Australia
A dark channel branches through blazing orange residue like a tree silhouetted against fire. The colour comes from iron left behind when bauxite is refined, and as the ponds dry the surface folds into soft ridges and flowing shapes. From the air it glows with an intensity that is hard to believe is real.
