Around Kalgoorlie and Lake Lefroy, the Goldfields hold vast salt lakes and mining landscapes. From a few thousand feet, the water, salt crust and red earth draw patterns that feel both ancient and industrial.

The Loop

From $590

Goldfields, Western Australia

Deep in the Goldfields, a haul road loops around itself as it winds down into an open cut gold mine. A single truck makes the climb while the walls fall away in bands of gold, rose and charcoal. It is one of the most graphic pits I have flown over, and the way the road ties itself in a knot still makes me smile.

Goldfields, Western Australia

A curved wall of an open cut gold mine in the Goldfields of Western Australia, cut into neat benches that run from rusty red through gold and silver down into dark rock. A haul road sweeps around the rim in a bright orange curve. From the air every layer reads like a stripe of colour on a painter's palette, millions of years laid bare in one frame.

Deep Time

Goldfields, Western Australia

Two haul trucks crawl along the benches of a deep open cut mine in the Goldfields, dwarfed by walls striped in red, pink and gold. Further down the rock turns dark and blue grey, layer after layer stepping into the pit. Looking straight down into it feels like reading back through time.

Ochre Lines

From $450

Goldfields, Western Australia

Haul roads, stockpiles and benches cross the edge of an open cut mine in the Goldfields, each one a different shade of ochre, rust and grey. A single haul truck on the road gives a sense of just how big everything is down there. From above it all turns into an abstract of lines and textures, almost like a woven rug.

Goldfields, Western Australia

A haul road snakes down through dark rock in an open cut mine in the Goldfields, with a single truck working its way around the bends. On one side the walls glow soft peach and gold, on the other a small pool of deep green water sits at the bottom. Light against dark, and one of my favourite frames from the trip.

Gold Mosaic

Goldfields, Western Australia

Late light catches the cracked crust of a gold mine tailings dam deep in the Goldfields. The plates of dried clay glow like gold leaf while the dark water between them settles into a deep blue, turning an industrial landscape into a mosaic you could only ever see from the air.

Unfurl

Goldfields, Western Australia

Ribbons of white salt curl through deep red water on a remote Goldfields salt lake, folding over each other like the petals of a flower. The shapes were drawn by wind and evaporation and only reveal themselves from high above.

Lake Lefroy, Goldfields, Western Australia

On the salt crust of Lake Lefroy near Kambalda, a haul road spirals down through bands of rust, ochre and grey into an open pit, finishing at a small dark pool at the very bottom. From directly above it reads like a shell, or a fingerprint pressed into the lake.

Life

From $450

Goldfields, Western Australia

A single channel of water winds up through a Goldfields salt flat and splits into dozens of fine branches, drawing a perfect tree into the landscape. Patterns like this are carved slowly as water drains across the lake bed, and they only reveal themselves from the air.

Soft whites, sand tones and fine blue veins give it an organic, calming feel, a reminder that life finds its way even in the harshest places.

Lake Lefroy, Goldfields, Western Australia

Two open pits sit side by side on Lake Lefroy, one wide and terraced, the other a tight spiral, with haul roads looping between them and the pale lilac salt of the lake pressing in on every side. Mining and landscape meet here in a way that only really makes sense from the air.

Stand

From $450
Stand

Stand was photographed over a remote salt lake north west of Kalgoorlie. It was a lucky discovery, one of those rare moments where nature offers up something so striking it feels like art. The lake’s vivid reds and cream coloured contours create a powerful visual, with swirling forms that look sculpted by hand. It is a landscape of movement and mood, shaped by time and weather, captured in a moment that may never repeat. Stand is a bold abstract that brings raw energy and emotion to the International Print Series.

Cobalt

Description:*Cobalt* was photographed over a cobalt and nickel mine north of Kalgoorlie, where industry carves into the land with surgical precision. But from above, something unexpected emerges, an abstract, almost cosmic beauty. With its strong reds and deep blues, the image feels like a collision between nature and man, art and extraction. Cobalt challenges our assumptions about what beauty can be, showing that even in heavily altered landscapes, art can be found.

The Yellow Line

Artwork Description:Photographed over Lake Lefroy in Western Australia, 'The Yellow Line' captures the raw graphic nature that these salt lakes create when viewed from above. The cracked, textured surface is split by a strong yellow divide, likely caused by different mineral compositions or seasonal changes in the lakebed. Shooting over Lake Lefroy always delivers something different depending on the time of year, and this section stood out immediately from the air. It is a simple composition built around colour and contrast, designed to draw the eye and let the mind wander. Part of the International Print Series, showcasing the abstract beauty of Australia’s remote landscapes from above.

Wave

From $450

Goldfields, Western Australia

Turquoise water curls against the edge of a Goldfields salt lake like a breaking wave, trimmed with white salt crust and rusty red earth. The shape formed as the water level shifted, leaving rings that echo the motion of the ocean.

It brings the colours of the coast and the outback together in one frame, a fresh, bright piece for a living space.
