My work in the United States has taken me from Antelope Canyon in Arizona to the Mojave Desert and San Francisco. Solar fields, sandstone and fog create a completely different palette from home.
Dream State
From $450San Francisco, California
The Golden Gate Bridge dissolving into warm, golden light. With slow, deliberate camera movement, the towers and cables soften into streaks of red against a glowing sky, so the bridge feels more like a memory than a landmark.
A gentle, painterly piece that brings warmth to a room, and a natural companion to Transition.
Pool Party
From $450Palm Springs, California
Two stone lions guard a crisp white entry, each wearing a pink pool float, which is about as Palm Springs as it gets. From my Palm Springs series, walking the strangely quiet, almost dystopian streets of the desert’s mid century modern neighbourhoods.
Blade Runner
From $450Ivanpah, Mojave Desert, California
A solar tower at Ivanpah glows through thick haze, surrounded by a sea of mirrors catching the last of the orange light. The scene feels more like a film set than a power station, which is where the name came from.
The heavy atmosphere strips everything back to light, shape and a single line running through the frame, giving it a quiet, futuristic mood.
Antelope Vector
From $450Antelope Canyon, Arizona
The sandstone walls of Antelope Canyon have been carved by flash floods over thousands of years, leaving curves that look almost liquid. For this piece I pushed the image towards a bold, graphic finish, simplifying the tones into bands of rust, coral and deep red, with a single ribbon of blue sky cutting through the top.
It sits somewhere between photograph and illustration, and suits a modern space where colour and shape lead the way.
Think Pink
From $450Palm Springs, California
A hot pink door, a white car tucked under the carport and a pair of palms peeking over the roofline. Everything here feels carefully placed, right down to the cactus by the door. From my Palm Springs series, walking the strangely quiet, almost dystopian streets of the desert’s mid century modern neighbourhoods.
Lime Light
From $450Palm Springs, California
Lime green double doors set into a soft pink wall, with desert plants and tall palms standing around like guests waiting to be let in. From my Palm Springs series, walking the strangely quiet, almost dystopian streets of the desert’s mid century modern neighbourhoods.
Colour Block
From $450Palm Springs, California
An old motel courtyard painted in bold red, orange and green, with one lonely palm rising above it all and the pool chairs lined up and waiting. From my Palm Springs series, walking the strangely quiet, almost dystopian streets of the desert’s mid century modern neighbourhoods.
Monolith
From $450Monument Valley, Arizona
Close in on the Mittens, where the sandstone rises straight out of the valley floor in deep reds and dusky pinks. Part of my vector series, where real photographs from my road trips through the American Southwest are reworked into flat layers of colour.
Jigsaw
From $450Yosemite National Park, California
Another study of pine bark in Yosemite, where the plates overlap and peel like layers of old paint. A reminder that the patterns I chase from the air are often right in front of you too.
Furnace
From $450Ivanpah, Mojave Desert, California
Close in on one of the Ivanpah receiver towers, where concentrated sunlight makes the top burn white hot above a field of glowing mirrors.
Poolside
From $450Palm Springs, California
Turquoise trim and white stucco meet the bright colours of the motel next door, a little slice of old school desert holiday. From my Palm Springs series, walking the strangely quiet, almost dystopian streets of the desert’s mid century modern neighbourhoods.
Mint Condition
From $450Palm Springs, California
Mint green posts and empty balconies on a quiet motel, with three palms leaning in against a clear blue sky. From my Palm Springs series, walking the strangely quiet, almost dystopian streets of the desert’s mid century modern neighbourhoods.
Sentinel
From $450Sonoran Desert, Arizona
A lone saguaro stands guard over the desert, arms raised against a deep blue sky. Part of my vector series, where real photographs from my road trips through the American Southwest are reworked into flat layers of colour.
Old Faithful
From $450Palm Springs, California
A classic Ford pickup parked against a long pale wall, with a trio of palms watching from above. The kind of scene that feels frozen in time. From my Palm Springs series, walking the strangely quiet, almost dystopian streets of the desert’s mid century modern neighbourhoods.
Mirage
From $450Ivanpah, Mojave Desert, California
By day the mirrors at Ivanpah reflect the desert sky, turning the red sand of the Mojave into a sea of blue that stretches all the way to the mountains.
Two Fifty
From $450Palm Springs, California
A Mondrian inspired gate in soft pastels guards a low mid century home, its house name spelled out on the wall beside it. From my Palm Springs series, walking the strangely quiet, almost dystopian streets of the desert’s mid century modern neighbourhoods.
The Mitten
From $450Monument Valley, Arizona
The West Mitten and its neighbour stand tall over Monument Valley, glowing red against a pale sky. Part of my vector series, where real photographs from my road trips through the American Southwest are reworked into flat layers of colour.
Desert Motel
From $450Palm Springs, California
A turquoise gated motel under towering palms and big desert clouds, with the mountains rising behind. From my Palm Springs series, walking the strangely quiet, almost dystopian streets of the desert’s mid century modern neighbourhoods.
