Photographed from a doors-off Cessna 210 over the southern bays of Shark Bay, this image was captured on the iconic Pentax 645z, one of my go-to tools for detail and depth. I waited until just after 9am for the sun to lift high enough to pull those deeper tones from the ocean. The composition draws your eye diagonally through the frame, revealing subtle transitions between aquas and muted greens that Shark Bay is so well known for. It’s a scene that couldn’t exist from the ground. Only from the sky do these patterns align so cleanly. For me, this shot captures a quiet momentum, like the ocean is offering you a direction forward. It’s calm, expansive and reflective, perfect for larger prints where it can breathe and glow with natural light. This is one of those moments where patience, planning and a touch of luck came together at exactly the right time.
