Karijini Eye

Spa Pool in Hamersley Gorge is one of those places that feels sculpted more than formed. This particular composition, which I’ve come to call Karijini Eye, captures the layered rock wrapping around the turquoise pool like an iris, perfectly circular and full of depth. It’s easily one of Western Australia’s most recognisable natural features, and for good reason.

I’ve shot this spot a few times now, but on this visit the colours were cleaner, the water stiller, and the light more forgiving than usual. The curved rock formations around Spa Pool seem to focus everything inward, and I wanted to highlight that sense of pull, how everything leads you toward that one clear pool tucked into the gorge wall.

It’s an image that feels like balance. Between water and stone. Between chaos and order. And it’s part of my International Print Series, which brings together grounded and aerial perspectives of Australia’s most iconic and abstract landscapes.
